MEEKER I Meeker’s Barone Middle School finished third at the annual Northwest Invitational Wresting tournament in Hayden March 5. Meeker had four champions, two second places, two thirds and two fourth place finishes.

Meeker had four champions, two second places, two thirds and two fourth place finishes. “We didn’t have the same intensity as last week but our kids still performed very well‚” said head coach Lee Overton.Finishing first for the Cowboys were Austin Purcell, Dillon Frantz, T.J. Shelton, and Ruben Roybal. All four of Meeker’s champions remained undefeated for the season.Tristan Pelloni and Devon Pontine both finished in second place. Jake Phelan and Cody Purcell finished in third place. Jake Nielsen and Matt Frantz placed fourth.Also competing for the Cowboys were Kylloe Goedert, Robby Jensen, Jacob Henderson, Noah Overton and Austin Bradford.Meeker will have a home match with Rangely, Craig and Hayden Friday at 4 p.m. at Meeker High School. uuuuThe BMS wrestlers traveled to Oak Creek to participate in the annual Soroco wrestling tournament March 12. Meeker crowned two individual champions and the team finished in third place.Team captain Tristin Pelloni continued his winning ways. Tristin barely broke a sweat as he dominated his weight class.Anthony Watt continued to improve as he pinned his way to the finals and won his championship match 15-4.Robby Jensen, team captain Jake Phelan and Devon Pontine all finished in second place. Cody Purcell wrestled his best tournament of the year and finished in third place.Austin Purcell suffered his first loss of the year but came back strong to finish in third place and Ruben Roybal posted a fourth place finish.Also scoring points for the Cowboys, were Kylloe Geodert, Jacob Henderson, Jake Nielsen, Matt Frantz, Tyler Pollock, Noah Overton and Austin Bradford.Meeker will host a tournament this Saturday, March 19 at Meeker High School. Wrestling will begin at 9 a.m.
