MEEKER I The Meeker Cowboys boys’ basketball team is beginning its season with the consistency of coaches and two strong senior leaders.
Klark Kindler will again lead the boys in his 16th year as head coach along with eight-year veteran assistant and former player Matt Dupire. The two have been a force in previous years with a third-place finish in the Colorado State Basketball Championships in 2009 as well as several league championships.
Last year, the team finished second in the district tournament and was 9-2 in conference play.
Dylan Mobley and Jeremy Musgrave return to the team as senior leaders, Coach Kindler said.
“We should be very competitive in our league this year,” he added.
Kindler said he believes Paonia will be a talented team and that the league will offer great competition.
The Cowboys have 15 players out this season, working hard and preparing for their opening game on the first weekend in December before hosting the annual White River Electric Cowboy Shootout the following weekend.
With the experience of the coaches and talented seniors accompanied by key players like Raul Lopez, the season looks to be another exciting venture for Meeker.
