MAYBELL I A 16-year-old Craig boy was killed in a one-vehicle accident Saturday about 20 miles northwest of Maybell.
Russell Walsh, 16, was ejected from the 1996 Dodge Ram pickup, driven by Samuel Jesse Sheridan, age 18, of Maybell. Both Walsh and Sheridan were transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in Craig. Walsh died from his injuries. Sheridan sustained moderate injuries.
Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing seat belts. Alcohol or drug impairment is not suspected to be a factor. However, excessive speed is believed to be a factor in the cause of this accident, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The Dodge Ram driven by Sheridan was eastbound on Moffat County Road 10, entering a curve to the right. The truck skidded and then rotated clockwise. The truck then rotated counterclockwise and then rotated clockwise partly off the left side of the road. The pickup rolled over three-quarters time, re-entering the roadway and slid on its side, coming to rest on its right side in the roadway. During the rollover, the passenger, Walsh, was ejected from the truck.
