Holiday musical performances scheduled in Meeker

MEEKER | The Barone Middle School bands and the Meeker High School band and choir will join to present the annual Winter Concert on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Meeker High School auditorium.
Music director and conductor Jeff Hemingson stated that the Barone Middle School sixth grade band will feature their traditional “Jingle Bells” piece. The seventh grade band will feature a “very catchy” syncopated number sure to delight audience members. The eighth grade band will feature the classic musical theme from “The Magnificent Seven” 1960s western movie as well as variations from the “Poor Wayfaring Stranger.”
The Meeker High School band’s premier piece will feature selections from “The Nightmare before Christmas.”
The award-winning Meeker High School choir will present “Ubi Caritas,” a classic Gregorian Chant (Latin translation: ‘where charity and love are, God is there’). The text of the lyrics was inscribed on the walls of historic middle ages cellars in Cologne, Germany, where Jewish people were hidden from the Nazi persecutions of World War II. The classic “Carol of the Bells” will be sung in four-part harmony.
The MHS choir has been selected to participate in a Carnegie Hall massed choir concert in New York City during the summer of 2017 with distinguished high school choirs from throughout the nation and is engaged in fundraising for this extraordinary experience.
All are welcome and encouraged to enjoy the extraordinary talents of these gifted musicians.
Briana Williams, music director for the annual Meeker Community Choir Christmas Cantata announced that the Community Choir will present their annual holiday classic choral concert on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 3 p.m. at the Meeker High School auditorium. All are encouraged to attend this delightful presentation by Meeker community members including respected senior members of our community on down to high school students.
The Community Choir was founded more than 30 years ago and has delighted audience members with their traditional and inspirational holiday music productions.
The Meeker Elementary School holiday musical production will be held on Dec. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Meeker High School auditorium. First and fourth grade classes will be performing under the direction of music teacher Shana Holliday.
