Home of: Mark and Doretta Barlow

RANGELY | Too much work and not enough work seem to define the current life of Mark and Doretta Barlow of Rangely, this week’s “home of” honorees.
Doretta stays busy as the breakfast and lunch manager of the delicatessen at White River Market in Rangely. Her job entails doing whatever is needed in the deli to satisfy the market’s customers.
Mark is currently unemployed after several years in the oil field. He is looking for a new job and has set his sights on being a certified nurse’s assistant. He already has his professional certification.
The Barlows have been married for 25 years, having exchanged their wedding vows in New Mexico. The couple relocated to the Rangely area in 1999 from Vernal, and they have enjoyed their 14 years here, Doretta said.
The Barlows have three children, all are still single. Daughter Jennifer is a student at Colorado Western University in Gunnison, son Cole is a student at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, and youngest son Ryan is a freshman at Rangely High School.
Mark and Doretta are the outdoorsy type. Doretta said she and Mark enjoy fishing, camping and mostly outdoor activities of all kinds while she also enjoys her arts and crafts.
“I really enjoy living in Rangely because of the small-town atmosphere,” Doretta said. “It is really nice to know almost everyone in Rangely and the surrounding area and to know them by their first names.
Unable to pinpoint any real highlights in her life, Doretta said, “My entire life seems to revolve around working. It is unfortunate that nothing special really stands out, but I do enjoy my job and the friends I have in Rangely.”
