MEEKER I The Meeker High School girl’s basketball team is taking the court this year with great expectations and a great deal of experience returning from a team that played in last year’s regional championship game.
Practice officially began on Nov. 13 with 28 girls going out for the team, including eight seniors who will be leading the way.
Head coach Greg Chintala will once again be at the helm. Chintala led the team to a 22-3 finish last year as well as winning the district championship. Chintala is excited about the upcoming season and said, “We have a very good shot at playing on the final weekend of the season.”
Chintala is joined this year by new assistant Julie Bowman, who teaches kindergarten and brings great basketball experience to the team. Karen Dinwiddie will come back as Chintala’s C-team coach and also adds knowledge to the staff.
The coaching staff and team are all very enthusiastic about getting the season started and taking the court. They are well aware that there will be competitive teams in the league, but they hope their hard work and experience will pay off.
Meeker will certainly have a great advantage in leadership, as their seniors have proven varsity success.
Returning seniors are Taylor Neilson, Piper Haney, Aly Ridings, Deena Norrell, Shelby Burke, Taylor Morris, Kimmie Molina and Alex Duell.
