Lady Cowboys continue winning streak

RBC I The Meeker girls’ basketball continued their unbeaten 2014 streak with three more wins last week. The lady Cowboys not only won but they scored more than 60 points in each game and outscored their opponents by more than 20 points in the three games.
Meeker began Tuesday night against Rangely where Aly Ridings led the way in scoring with 16, followed by Taylor Neilson with 13, Sydney Hughes with 12 and Megan Parker added nine. Meeker came out to a first quarter 21-4 lead and never looked back, finishing with 61 points and eight girls scoring.
The team traveled to Kremmling on Friday night where they were unstoppable in the first quarter, once again giving themselves a huge lead after the first eight minutes, 26-5. They cooled off a little in the second quarter but still went into the locker room up 35-12. They came out strong in the third and finished 70-32 over West Grand.
Hughes was the leading scorer for the lady Cowboys with 21 points followed by Neilson with 15, Ridings with eight, Piper Haney and Deena Norell each had seven, Jamie McLaughlin had three, and Taylor Morris and Parker each added a bucket.
Saturday found the girls back home against North Park, and though the opponent changed, the tempo remained the same in the first two quarters as Meeker scored 22 points in the first and second periods. Hughes once again created the pace with 22 points of her own, Neilson had 13, Ridings with 12, Reese Pertile, Piper Haney, and Deena Norell each added four, McLaughlin had a bucket and Parker added three to the 64-43 victory.
The team has balanced scoring and tremendous offensive rhythm particularly at the beginning of the games. Meeker’s defense has been solid as well and the team hopes to add to their streak and build momentum as they get into the bulk of the regular season.
