CNCC has commissioned Kyle Stewart for a large metal sculpture to grace the new Rangely Campus time capsule courtyard in honor of the College’s 50th Anniversary Re-dedication Celebration. A large rendition of Spartan armor and gear was finally agreed upon for the sculpture.
Stewart found his talent for metal art back in 2009, when he made his wife, Ashley, a rose for their anniversary. A couple months of flower-making had gotten Kyle curious, so as a challenge to himself, he began making a life-size eagle. Two months, 140 hours, and 512 hand-crafted feathers became his first major art piece, soon after purchased by Rangely Mayor Frank Huitt. Taking a break from his large-scale projects, he focused on perfecting his flowers and trying his hand at wall-hangings of all kinds.
A little over a year after the eagle, Kyle was approached by the RHS class of 2011 to make a panther picture to hang in the school. The following year Kyle was asked to make a sign for the Elks Lodge. Shortly thereafter, Kyle was contracted for the new Elks Park sign honoring Rangely Veterans.
And now he has taken on his largest challenge yet, the Spartan helmet statue for CNCC’s 50th anniversary.
