MEEKER I The two Rio Blanco County baseball teams battled for the fifth and final time of the 2013 baseball season on Saturday, with Rangely the victor.
Meeker’s starting lineup for the playoff game consisted of the usual starters, including seniors Alex Smith, Nate Walsh, Scott Smith, and Ben Fitzgibbons.
The game started out slowly, with no runs scored by either team until the fourth inning. In the top of the fourth inning, the bases were loaded when Dylan Mobley came to the plate for Meeker, hitting a base-clearing double to bring in runners Scott Smith, Jeremy Musgrave, and Nate Walsh for a 3-0 lead.
Rangley then scored one run in the bottom of the inning.
After Cowboys pitcher Alex Smith struck out six batters over the first five innings, he was relieved by Jeremy Musgrave, who struck out another two Rangely batters.
The fifth inning brought in six more runs for Rangley, along with another four in the sixth. The seventh brought no change, and the final game was brought to a close with the final score at 11-3 in favor of Rangley.
Meeker’s record is left at 1-13.
