Rangely feels effects of tornado-like storm
RANGELY | Strong winds accompanied a thunderstorm which hit Rangely Tuesday evening. The tornado-like winds blew a roof off the Nichols Hall dormitory at Colorado Northwestern College and two trees fell on CNCC president Russell George’s home. President George was home, but uninjured. The heaviest damage occurred on the east side of Rangely. A power pole was knocked down behind Nichols Store, trees uprooted and debris strewn across town. A power outage from 8:45 p.m to 1:30 a.m. affected homes and businesses on the southside of town and upriver.

Fireworks warning
MEEKER | The Meeker Police Department would like to remind the public that it is illegal to use fireworks that explode and or leave the ground. If contacted by police the fireworks will be confiscated and you could be cited for illegal use of fireworks.

Royalty workshop/clinic and tryouts July 1
RBC | A workshop/clinic for the Range Call Royalty will be held Friday, July 1 at the Rio Blanco County Fairgrounds starting at 9 a.m. Tryouts for 2012 royalty will be held Aug. 20, 2011.

Cut and remove weeds
MEEKER | Property owners (or the individuals responsible for the property) are required to cut and remove weeds and brush, including weeds in adjacent alleys and public rights-of-way between June 10-20 and again between Aug.1-10. Property owners who fail to comply may be cited and required to appear in municipal court. If the town has to remove the weeds and brush, it may assess a tax lien against those properties that have failed to comply.

Mobile pantry in Meeker July 28
MEEKER | Food Bank of the Rockies (FBR) mobile pantry truck will be in Meeker providing food assistance to community members. Scheduled dates are July 28 and Aug. 25, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fairgrounds Exhibit Hall, 779 Sulphur Creek Rd., Meeker. RBC | Call the extension office at (970)878-9490 to reserve a fair exhibit booth now. A limited number of spaces is available. Make your reservations soon! Booths will be judged under two categories, commercial and community. Electricity is available upon request.
