ArlandKay Thomas Shaw “Shag,” 36, of Rangely, Colo., formally of Gunnison, Utah, passed away Aug. 18, 2012, in Rangely from a car accident.
Kay was born Oct. 31, 1975, in Mt. Pleasant, Utah, to Arland Lakay and Patricia Clark Shaw. On July 15, 1993, Kay’s first son TylerKay Shaw was born in Gunnison,Utah. Kay loved old cars and rust which led him to receive a degree in auto body and paint from Snow College South in Richfield, Utah. He married Michelle Treloar on June 13, 1998, in Salina, Utah. They later had three children together.
Kay had a soft spot for exotics — from exotic cars to exotic saltwater fish aquariums. He would spend hours just admiring the details and beauty of his works of art. In 2006 Kay found his true passion in coal mining. He took great pride in his work and in the fact that he was providing a good life for his family. Kay was a member of the UMWA and mine rescue and he was ready and willing to risk it all to help a fellow coal miner. Kay had a heart of gold and always wanted to help anyone he could. He enjoyed every minute he had with his children and loved them dearly. He was loved by everyone and will be missed by all.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle Shaw of Rangely; son TylerKay Shaw, 19, of Gunnison; daughter Nikayla Shaw, 13, of Rangely; sons Harley Blaze, 9, and Talan Shaw of Rangely; unborn grandson, baby AiedenKay; mother Patricia Shaw; grandmother Karma Shaw; siblings Anthony Andy (Carol) Shaw, L.
