RBC | It is springtime in the White River Valley again, school is wrapping up for the year, livestock is being turned out, and the ditches are starting to run in the fields. Something else that has happened in our beautiful valley for the past 106 years is the annual Oldtimers’ Reunion. The Rio Blanco County Pioneer Association would like to invite anyone that is over 30 years old and ever attended school in one of our county schools to come join us on June 2.
This year the theme is “Blame It All On My Roots” with a fun fashion show planned for entertainment before dinner.
In the coming weeks we will share the history of the reunion, stories of how it all began and highlights. One such story is in the original records of the association printed in part in the Meeker Herald centennial edition in 1985. It reads, “The original inhabitants decided to pull together everyone who was around when the town was first settled.” The date of the first “Oldtimers’ Dance and Reunion” was Feb 9, 1912. After deciding to have this reunion, the paper reported, “For the past few weeks, since the old-timers’ dance and reunion was determined and talked about, it was a foregone conclusion that a great big time would be the result.” That is reportedly exactly what happened, a great time was had and so the tradition began. Oldtimers’ is a tradition of friendship, community involvement and having fun celebrating this great place where we live.
The cost is $35 dollars per person. Register and pay online by going to the website, www.rbcpioneers.org or mail your registration to the RBC Pioneers Association, Haley Kracht P.O. Box 1103, Meeker, CO, 81641.
