RANGELY I Four members of the Rangely High School Panther wrestling team took part in the annual Carl Ramunno Memorial Tournament in Steamboat Springs, and all four placed in the top three, including one champion.
The Panthers will now travel to Ignacio for a triangular meet Friday and tournament on Saturday.
Senior Heath Peters won the 138-pound bracket for a second week in a row, and his workout partner, Nych DeLeon, was second at 145. Kiki Ruiz (152) and Ethan Allred (170) finished third in their respective weights.
“We looked good this weekend,” head coach Jeff Heinle said. “We can see it is starting to come together. The moves are just happening, combinations of multiple moves are coming together and the wrestlers are looking confident on the mat.”
Rangely will wrestle Bayfield and Ignacio in the triangular meet on Friday then compete in the Butch Melton Invitational on Saturday.
“We will be seeing Dove Creek, Dolores and Ignacio and hoping to come home with some important head-to-head matches before entering the regional tournament in three weeks,” coach Heinle said.
