RANGELY I Eighteen couples, including many from other Western Slope towns and Vernal, Utah, played in the annual Couples Classic on Cedar Ridges Golf Course last weekend, and Rangely couples were well represented in the two-day event.
The field was evenly divided into two flights with a Rifle couple, Roger and Elly Walters, winning the championship flight and Rangely’s Rob and Leilanie Morgan taking top honors in the second flight.
“The weather was great; they finished just ahead of the rain on Sunday,” clubhouse manager Chris Hejl said. Eighteen holes were played each day, using the Chapman format.
The Walters shot a six-under-par 138, four shots ahead of Rangely mother/son team Ellen Boudreaux and Clark Edwards in the championship flight. Jim and Dorlene Roy of Glenwood Springs took top net honors in the first flight, giving Vernal’s Levi and Mary Smuin second.
Jeff and Yvonne Otto of Glenwood Springs was 13 shots behind the Morgans in the second flight, for second place. Lyle Peterson and Lavella Justus finished with the best net score (126) in the second flight, five shots ahead of Jon and Margret Prater of Battlement Mesa.
Hejl said Doug and Britt Choate won the shootout on Saturday in the championship flight and the Morgans won it in the second flight.
The Rangely Cup and the CNCC Rodeo Scramble are next on the golf course’s schedule. Call the clubhouse at 675-8403 for details.
