The Meeker Herald — 100 years ago
• Notice is hereby given that the ordinance prohibiting the firing off of shooting crackers, cannon crackers and all kinds of fireworks on the streets will be strictly enforced. Go into the park and shoot your fire crackers off. Mayor F.N. JoHantgen., Town Marshal B.L. Nichols.
• The dandelion season is over but cottonwood season is at hand. As soon as we get rid of one pest, another puts in an appearance.
• An unusually large hay crop is in sight this season and our farmers are getting ready to harvest it in good style.
• Why not raise mules while you have a chance?

The Meeker Herald — 50 years ago
• Meeker has gone all out to celebrate the “Rush to the Rockies” centennial. Elliot Roosevelt, son of the late President Franklin D. Roosevelt, will narrate the parade.
• The birthday of the U.S. did not become a legal public holiday until 1941, according to the World Book Encyclopedia.
• Soldier boys home from the Korean conflict: Frank Marshall, Tom Franks, Fletcher Hermance, Billy Cunningham, LaPool Strehlke and Paul Wear.
• The modern puzzle is how the old folks managed to raise their children without about a dozen books on child care.

The Meeker Herald — 25 years ago
• John Barney was the 1984 Range Call Parade Marshal.
• As of Monday morning, there were more than 60 entries lined up for the parade, according to chamber secretary Linda Cox.
• Linda Mazuchi and Kirk Norell planned to be married on July 14, 1984.
• The Oldlands’ Spur Ranch celebrated 100 years.
• Mr. and Mrs. Martin Villa announced the birth of a grandson, Martin Paul, born June 28 to Dr. and Mrs. Albert Krueger in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.

The Rangely Times — 50 years ago
• Jim Gilliam was appointed as a justice of the peace by the county commissioners.
• Perhaps it’s not important but our government has operated in the red for 23 out of the last 28 years.
• Joe Paul Mann was the 50,000th patient to enter St. Mary’s Hospital at its present location.
• At Bestway, Tivoli beer, 99 cents a carton; marshmallows, 29 cents for a full pound bag.
• At the Rig Theatre: “The Perfect Furlough” with Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh; “Once Upon a Horse” with Dan Rowan and Dick Martin; and “Good Day For a Hanging” with Fred MacMurray and Maggie Hayes.

The Rangely Times — 35 years ago
• Rangely retail sales were up 42.5 percent for the first quarter of 1974.
• Sun Oil Co. was awarded a $395,309 contract to start deep oil shale mining in Piceance Basin.
• The cost of a subscription to the Rangely Times went up to $5 per year to combat the rising cost of supplies and postage.

The Rangely Times — 20 years ago
• The Town of Rangely received a federal grant of $75,000 for downtown public improvements, including street trees, landscaping, street furniture, new sidewalks, etc.
• CNCC now has a fax machine in the president’s office. Fees for community use of the fax machine are as follows: $2 for the first page and $1 per additional page.
