• Lifelong resident Bob Hilkey passed away Sunday, Aug. 5.
• Kai Turner of Meeker enjoyed a fishing trip to Yellowstone Park recently with his uncles.
• Surrounded by almost $3,400 worth of prizes, Meeker’s Rowdy Atwood had good reason to smile after he and Joel Kidd Prall won the national team roping title in Oklahoma recently.

• Meeker Lions Club starts drive for road-side parks and picnic grounds in the White River Valley.
• The RE-1 board of education met in the new trailer house/teacherage on Piceance Creek recently installed at the Rock School.
• Mrs. Maurine Janes left Thursday for Los Angeles where she will be one of the surprise guests on the “It Could Be You” television program.

• Mrs. Florence Budge is married to E.H. Benson.
• Mrs. Alice Peterson purchased the Riley House property from Miss Martha Johnson and her sister, Mrs. Fred Carstens.
• Youthful incorrigibles in Fort Erie, Ont., are going to feel the municipal strap in the future. “We have tried the strap on a number of older boys in recent months rather than sending them to the reformatory, and it has worked remarkably well,” the police magistrate said.
• LOST: Green fountain pencil, one day last week on Main Street. Finder please return to Herald office.

• Rangely Reservoir bond election Tuesday.

• The winner of the 1980 Rangely 4-H dress revue was Leanne Rector.
• Brenda Brenton won first place with her demonstration entitled, “How to make honey milk balls.”

• Miss Judy Muller has been selected as the girl student to represent the State of Colorado at the second National Student Traffic Safety Conference.
• Action to core drill the site of the proposed dam on Piceance Creek was tabled for further engineering study.
• “We note that an oil field servicing company has located its branch office in Meeker, serving an area from south of Grand Junction up into Wyoming and west to Rangely and eastern Utah. Wonder how they happened to bypass Rangely in making their selection, if they were looking for a central location.”
• Glennis Howard became the bride of Charles F. Long, Friday, Aug. 5, 1960.
