RBC I Colorado Parks and Wildlife is offering novices a unique opportunity to learn the basics of trapping and predator calling at a one-evening only seminar from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Hunter Education building at 711 Independent Avenue in Grand Junction.

“The main hunting seasons are winding down, but there are still plenty of ways to enjoy Colorado’s outdoors,” said Dick Severin, the CPW’s assistant hunter outreach coordinator.
“Learning how to trap and call can be a bit of a challenge if you are unfamiliar with the various techniques, so we encourage anyone is interested to sign-up.”
Among the topics to be discussed include the various types of predator calls and decoys, the differences between day and night calling, camouflage clothing, the variety of cage traps, which lures are legal in Colorado, and Colorado rules and regulations.
Trapping is an important part of Colorado history, from the early mountain men who trapped for food and furs to modern trappers who wish to actively preserve this heritage while participating in biologically sustainable wildlife management and conservation efforts.
