It’s no secret that shopping at big box stores or online is easy and convenient on shoppers, but it’s not easy or convenient on the health of your local community’s economy.
Small businesses make up 99.7% of U.S. businesses, according to a 2016 report (https://www.sba.gov/sites/default/files/advocacy/United_States.pdf) from the Small Business Administration. Economic studies (https://www.amiba.net/resources/multiplier-effect/) indicate that 48% of the revenue generate d by independent small businesses are recirculated in the community, compared to 13.6% from chain retailers.
When you head out to do your Christmas shopping this year, think small and think local first. You may just be able to knock everything off that list without leaving town or firing up the computer.
