MEEKER | The 9-6 Meeker Cowboy basketball program faced a tough challenge on the road this past weekend after a resounding victory at home against the Olathe Pirates.
A score of 57-32, the Cowboys were able to get nearly all of the boys in for some playing time.
“I reminded the younger boys who got in, they needed to make their free throws for stat building,” commented Kindler. “Olathe began fouling at the end of the game and those that came off of the bench had an opportunity to get some shot in.”
Jonathan Fitzgibbons added 20 points to his 163 season total, Jace Mobley 11 and Ryan Sullivan 10. Fitzgibbons with 11 rebounds and Casey Brink with 10 led off of the boards.
“Moving up a class and then being the smallest in the class means we are not pulling from the depth that some of the other schools in our class are,” said Kindler. “We are still competitive and making it work.”
Saturday, in Carbondale, the Cowboys lost 44-74 to Roaring Fork.
“Roaring Fork only has one league loss and that was last weekend to Cedaredge,” commented Kindler.
The Cowboys were able to get nearly everyone off of the bench for some playing time for the second game in a row. Mobley led the stats with 10 points, followed by Sullivan with nine, and Brink with eight.
This weekend Meeker kicks off with three games in a row beginning on Thursday at home against Little Snake and a big overnight trip with Gunnison on Friday and Cedaredge on Saturday.
Games Thursday start at 4:30 p.m. with JV and in Gunnison they begin at 4 and Cedaredge at 11 a.m.
