MEEKER — The Meeker Cowboy track team traveled to Glenwood Springs last Saturday to compete in the Demon Invitational.
The weather was as much of a challenge as the competition. It caused equipment failure and officials and athletes were all cold and wet. The meet went on, and the tough mountain folks kept battling.
Marki Cook and Kathryn Doll both qualified for finals in a field of more than 45 athletes, Marki brought home the gold and Kathryn placed fourth in the event finals. Adia Comeau ran a strong 400 and freshman Annie Cook came in 15th in the 800.
Krystal Olson ran the 1,600 and the 3,200 in the cold and wet on her birthday. One hundred-meter hurdlers Timbre Shriver and Mandi Cornelius placed eighth and 16th; both also had good showings in the 300-meter hurdles.

The guy’s team had some great efforts as well with freshman Toby Casias having the 10th fastest time out of more than 50 sprinters in the 100-meter dash. He topped that effort with a sixth place in the 200-meter dash running 24.35.
Sophomore Jarod Frantz ran a great 400 coming in 11th and the duo of Brock Campbell and Terrence Casias took third and fifth respectively in the 800-meter run.

In the field events Chris Ruckman tied for eighth in the high jump, Terrence Casias long jumped 17-10 in his first effort at that event.
Jake Nieslanik triple jumped more than 38-4 to place sixth.
