MEEKER I The Meeker Volleyball Team began its regular season with two solid victories over league opponents.
The girls traveled to Hayden on Friday night to take on a team with quality hitters that was ready to compete on their home floor. The Tigers come out strong, defeating Meeker in an exciting Game 1, 27-29 game.
Meeker settled into their game plan, and won Game 2, 25-21.
Coach Christy Atwood said, “The team is still trying to get comfortable with each other on the court, and we are working to find the right lineup.”
The girls found a lineup that worked, winning games 3 and 4, 25-21 and 25-20, respectively.
The Cowgirls took their momentum on the road Saturday to play Vail Christian. They came out ready to play, dominating the match in three straight wins, 25-17, 25-19, and 26-24.
Atwood said, “We played very well as a team,” and she went on to compliment several of her players saying, “Piper Haney has stepped in and taken over the setting duties seamlessly and the rest of the team has been diligent in accepting their roles and performing at the level we ask.
“Taylor, Aly, Syd, Paige and Reagan give us great offensive threat and are able to protect our net defensively,” she said. “Jamie McLaughlin and Brittney Smith are stepping up on the defensive side and Megan Parker is a great utility player contributing on both sides of the ball.”
“The entire team is really coming together and played consistent volleyball Saturday,” Atwood said, “We served well and passed the best we have this season.”
The cowgirls look to extend their winning streak this weekend as they host Plateau Valley on Friday night and travel to Paonia on Saturday afternoon.
Atwood said, “We are looking forward to facing two good teams this weekend and seeing where we will measure up with the rest of the league.”
