• The Midland directors held a meeting at Colorado Springs this week for the purpose, it is supposed, of considering the question of extending the road westward. The results of their deliberations have not yet leaked out.
• Work on the Oak Ridge Park ditch has been resumed and will be pushed during the winter. It is expected the ditch will be completed to Keller’s ranch by irrigating time next summer.
• D. K. Ashley, who, in connection with his brother, has leased the Dreifuss ranch at the mouth of Miller Creek for a number of years, has just completed a neat residence on the place. The Ashley brothers have other and more extensive improvements in contemplation.

• Willis Johnson, president of the Vernal Bank, and W. H. Coltharp, also of Vernal, were here this week as witnesses in the case of Albert Kirby being tried in the district court.
• On Tuesday, Dec. 13, Mrs. Mary Smith entertained at a lovely turkey dinner. The table and room were decorated in Christmas fashion. Guests at the dinner were Mrs. Bertha Metzger, Mrs. Annie Wildhack, Mrs. Mattie Harker, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Ella Rigby, Mrs. Buena Wharton, Mrs. Manwaring, Mrs. Lucy Crawford and Mrs. Shawkey. The remainder of the afternoon was spent in visiting.
• Mrs. Robert White spent last Thursday in Grand Junction, where she visited Mrs. Reynolds, who has been seriously ill for several weeks. Mrs. White reports that Mrs. Reynolds is somewhat improved.
• Judge John R. Clark, District Attorney Frank Delaney and Court Reporter John Shults were over from Glenwood Springs for the December term of Rio Blanco County District Court.

• Kimberly Parker, daughter of Melinda Parker, was selected to the Hastings, Neb., all tournament basketball team this past weekend. Coaches at the tournament, who selected six girls, were barred from voting for their own players. Hastings took four of the spots with Kimberly, a junior student at Western State in Gunnison, one of the remaining two selections.
• Bud and Helen Cox and Penny Brown spent the past weekend in Fruita. The three helped Joy, Margaret and Lester Cox move from Clifton into their home, which they’ve purchased in Fruita.
• Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Gerloff of Grand Junction will be moving to Meeker on Thursday of next week. Rodney has employment here at the Upper Environmental Plant Center.
• David and Linda Gertson were on the Eastern Slope this past weekend visiting with their son Merlin in Akron. On Saturday evening, they celebrated Merlin’s 25th birthday and on Sunday visited with their friends, Bonnie and Jim Eck in Sterling.

• Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Pressler of New Castle announce the engagement of their daughter, Frances N., to David C. Parker, son of Mrs. Marguerite Parker of Baggs, Wyo. The young couple are both graduates of New Castle High School and Mrs. Parker is now attending Rangely College. No date has been set by couple for their wedding.
• Ronald Skrabok was transferred to Vernal Hospital last Tuesday from Rangely District Hospital. He sustained a leg injury while working on an oil rig, drilling about nine miles west of Rangely.
• Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Beck and children made a trip to Big Piney, Wyo., last weekend. They visited many friends, which included the Merrill Anderson family.

• Mike Vanderlinden from Dallas, Texas, has moved back to Rangely.
• Jimmy is a former student of Rangely College and will be going with the Peace Corps on his arrival back in New York.
• Don and Lois Chism spent this last weekend in Denver, coming back to Rangely on Monday evening.
• Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Murano attended a Christmas party at the Murill Millets in Roosevelt last Thursday night.
• Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cose and Clyde Thompson attended the wedding of Judy Richardson and John Thompson in Grand Junction last weekend.
Rangely Times — 30 years ago
• The Rangely High School girls’ basketball team split a pair of weekend games at the West Grand Tournament, beating North Park, 33-23, and losing to host West Grand in the championship game, 50-37.
• Rangely’s boys basketball team played two games last week, falling to Meeker 67-50, and Unitah 72-61. High scorer for Rangely in both games was Darin Fogg with 19 and 22 points, respectively. Joe Lane took down 29 rebounds in the contest and Tony Unzicker played two outstanding games while scoring 10 and 11. Brion Reighard also tests, his coach praising him for good defense and timely baskets.
• Waldo and Jayne Kuck announce the arrival of their son, Waldo James Kuck. James joined his two brothers, Mike and Nick, on Thanksgiving morning. He weighed 9 lbs. 13 oz. and was 22 1/2” long. Grandparents are Ila Powell of Rangely and Mr. and Mrs. Waldo Kuck of Bertrand, Neb.
