MEEKER I It has been a slow and steady couple weeks for Cowboy baseball, but that is slated to pick up this week, the final week before the Cowboys enter league play this weekend.
Last week with just one game in Glenwood Springs, they nearly came from behind before ultimately losing by just one, 7-8.
The Demons scored in each of the first four innings before the Cowboys were able to shut them down. Defensively the Cowboys had eight errors that likely cost them the game. Jonathan Fitzgibbons opened the game on the mound pitching ⅚ innings before Liam Deming came in to finish the game, combined they pitched 119 balls.
Offensively Clay Crawford led with three runs, Deming had two and Ryan Sullivan and Trinden Powell each scored one with one stolen base.
This week began with a varsity/JV double header in Basalt where the Cowboys gave up six points in the fourth and only able to answer back with three. Meeker fell 11-4 but will have another chance at the Longhorns this Thursday on their home turf as there is another Basalt varsity/JV double header scheduled for 4 pm with JV to follow.
