MEEKER | The Meeker Cowboys boys’ wrestling team traveled to Craig last week for a dual against the Moffat County High School Bulldogs.
The dual began at the 113-pound weight class following a double forfeit at 106 pounds. Eli Rundberg secured Meeker’s first win by forfeit.
The Cowboys dominated early, winning the next four matches. Holton Harvey defeated Talus Folks, followed by victories from Koy Weber (126 pounds), Cooper Maupin (132 pounds), and Clay Crawford (138 pounds). This streak put Meeker ahead 26-0.
Moffat County responded at 144 pounds when Tate Green defeated Meeker’s Tanner Shults. The Bulldogs built momentum with Kaeden Martinez’s win over Orion Musser and Colt Call’s victory against Tristin Rollins, narrowing the score to 26-18.
In the 165-pound match, Meeker’s Drake Jones defeated Braxton Miller. Cade Blunt and Johnny Rust followed with wins, extending the Cowboys’ lead to 41-18. After a double forfeit at 215 pounds, Moffat County earned its final points of the night when Zach Winters won by forfeit.
Meeker secured the dual victory with a 41-24 final score.
On Saturday, Meeker hosted the Meeker Duals, opening with a decisive 59-6 victory over Basalt High School. After a bye in the second round, the Cowboys faced Grand Valley in the third round, falling 37-29.
For team placement, Meeker wrestled Rangely and secured a commanding 50-9 win. In their final match, they defeated the Hayden Tigers 40-30.
This weekend, the Meeker Cowboys will travel to Ignacio for the regional tournament, which will determine qualifiers for the state tournament at Ball Arena in Denver.
Notable wrestlers to watch this weekend include Cade Blunt, who is currently ranked first at 175 pounds in 2A Region 2; Clay Crawford, ranked third at 138 pounds; Koy Weber, ranked eighth at 132 pounds; and Orion Musser, ranked 12th at 157 pounds.
