After a full of good many years, the various oil fields of Rio Blanco county are again attracting attention.

It is said that Colonel Roosevelt will bring his outing to a close next week. He will leave the Keystone ranch on the 15th, stop that night here, and next morning will leave for Rifle. 

Scott Sawyer had his left hand fearfully accelerated in a saw-mill accident near Aspen last Monday, and it seems he will lose his hand.

Mr. and Mrs. L B Walbridge entertained at a dinner party Thursday evening. After a fine turkey dinner, bridge was played until a late hour.

Tomorrow is St. Valentine’s day.

The old mother earth again made her appearance this week when ‘ole sol’ persisted in removing the snow mantle which covered the ground.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Jordan, well-known and beloved pioneer woman, will be held from the Meeker Methodist Church. She passed away on her 94th birthday. 

Mr. and Mrs. Gus Halandras returned Friday from Utah where they had driven on Wednesday. 

Meeker Fire Department re-elected Bill Lucky as Fire Chief; Mike Washburn as Secretary; and Harry Watt as treasurer.

Rangely High School will enter three boys, Ray Powell, Rod Cook, and Jody Lee,  in the annual State Championship Wrestling Tournament this weekend.

The Historical Museum & Institute of Western Colorado has just received a check totaling $2,250 from the Colorado Centennial – Bicentennial Commission for the continuation of its Petroglyph Project.

The annual Steamboat Lake Fun Days events sponsored by the Routt County Winter Rescue Team are scheduled for March 7 at Hahns Peak Village. 

RIO BLANCO HERALD TIMES ~ 25 years ago

On Sunday, February 11th GLEN ROAD an Irish traditional music trio will perform their invigorating brand of traditional Irish music and contemporary folk songs in the MHS auditorium at 7:00 p.m.

Teachers at Meeker High School select the male and female “Athlete of the Week” based on achievement and citizenship. Tony Gianetti and Tanisha Gates were selected this week.

The Rangely high School Lady Panthers basketball team got their first league win on Saturday, beating Hotchkiss 54-47 in overtime.
