Saturday afternoon saw perfect fall weather and an equally great end to the Mustang football season. The younger players took to the Glenwood Springs High School field at high noon against the boys from Basalt. Honoring the coaches’ wishes, the boys came ready to play. Meeker scored on its first offensive play and never looked back in a decisive 25-0 win. Their coaches wore smug smiles of satisfaction as their young men played 100 percent cannon football, saying “We can’t wait to see what these guys do in their bright futures both on and off the field.” The older boys took the field against the squad from Parachute. A commitment to excellence and hard work was evident as the Mustangs built a 34-6 least in the third quarter. The Parachute coaches chose not to take the field in the fourth quarter and end the game on a safe note. Meeker coaches should be commended for producing such a hard working team. Coach Padilla notes, “it is an honor” to be associated with the storied tradition of Mustang football.
