Cowboy softball has been on the road and not seen home field action since Sept. 26. The last weekend in September found the team in Gunnison for a double header. Dominating both games, the Cowboys scored two in the “W” column. Outscoring Gunnison the first game 22-2 and the second game 17-3, there was some exciting play, including two home runs by Tori Lasker in the fourth inning of the second game.
It was a successful weekend all around as the next stop was Cedaredge to take on the Bruins. Lady Cowboy Kenzi Turner, scoring her first home run, had one of nine runs scored in the 9-1 victory. Traveling to Fruita Saturday, the Meeker team took on the Rifle Bears. The game, originally set for Thursday, had to be rescheduled due to flooded fields in Meeker. A record of 13-9 overall, the Cowboys fell to the Bears 9-4 after only two innings of play, the game was called because of rain. Softball has wrapped up its regular season and this weekend they travel to Limon for regionals. The Cowboys ranked ninth in the state will take on the 24th ranked Sheridan Rams at 10 a.m. in their opening game of the CHSAA Region 7 bracket.
