Citizens asked to weigh in on CDOT plan to close Hwy. 13 this summer

MEEKER | The Colorado Department of Transportation has announced plans to close Hwy. 13 for two hours per day and reroute traffic to CR 5 during a construction project this summer that failed to include traffic control plans. The Rio Blanco County Board of Commissioners are opposed to this plan and are asking citizens to attend a public meeting with CDOT representatives Monday, June 10 at the RBC Courthouse from 10-11 a.m.  to share their concerns about the proposal. Negative impacts on tourism, local commuters and safety hazards of detouring heavy summer traffic to CR 5 are all possible considerations. Please attend and share your concerns.

  1. What?! How do they “forget” to include a plan to manage traffic during their project? That is too busy a highway to close for a couple hours at a whack. The reroute via CR 5 adds a lot of miles and time. They need to rethink this.

  8. CR 5 would not stand up to the amount of traffic that would bring!

  12. I think it will be a safety issue not to mention a large inconveniences for the traveling public

  13. Watch the death count raise! Free range cows, wild horses, Elk, deer, oil field, this is a bad idea. 13 is in awful shape, if this happens it should be at night when there is less traffic. Then the state should cough up money for Piceance Creek road, and 64, not to mention Douglas Pass

  14. All they have to do is modify the contract. They are already modifying contract to include paying for the closure and I am sure that was not in original contract. If they can’t do that than they need to postpone project until it can be done right.

  15. Ryan Pozorski this would suck

  16. Jeeze Louise! How do they “forget” such an important part of the plan? WOWSER!

  17. Seriously? No, No, No!

  18. “Forgot?” Reallly? The idiot who “Forgot” needs to be fired.

  19. That sounds like a stupid plan by CDOT.

  20. Might as well wait the 2 hours. Save time and wear and tear on our vehicles. Maybe they can offer free coffee or something at the road block, add that to the plan.

  21. CDOT works at night in Denver, why not here? Go ahead and close the road for 4hrs in the middle of the night and get it done twice as fast.

  22. What are the hours planned for closure?

  23. Melissa Woodward this might be something you guys want to attend.

  24. Only if they want to close it 2AM-4AM… ?

  25. Cori Jo Pickett Popejoy if you have to work in meeker

  26. Any chance someone could Facebook live that meeting for people who have property in the area but won’t be able to attend in person? The Rio Blanco Herald Times it would be a great way to report on this.

  27. Dumb ideas that are rewarded with large contracts- way to go CDot

  28. “failed to include traffic control plans”?? Oops. Who approved the proposed action?

  29. D
Oh but 139 doesn’t get that much traffic they say!

  30. Most projects are required to have a traffic control plan. Sounds like a district engineer needs to step up and fix the mess they created.

  31. Don’t be dumb….set up food trucks at each side. Make some money. Senior class project?

  32. It would also put traffic on roads not designed for the load! RBC would be wise to close them.

Come say hi!
