Rangely seventh graders end volleyball season

RANGELY | Rangely’s 7B team—Tylee Fielder, Aubrianna Tapia,Carmela Fortunato, Braydon Raeley, Sidney Lujan, Gracie Varner, Aubrey Kenney, Tara Hubbard, Zoie Britt, Chloe Noel, Aaleigh Donavan, Alivia Green, Josie Hamblin, Jasmine Preciado, Aspen Steele, Kaelyn Geer and Valyn Broderick—traveled to Meeker to the District tournament last weekend.
This group of sixth graders who played all season against seventh graders were ready to get on the court against the Steamboat Sailors. Server Fielder started off with the first four points. Serving continued with Lujan—five, Raeley—four and Fortunato—five, with the last point for this match being an ace.
Britt started the next match with three aces. As the girls focused on setting up the ball, they continued to be on top of our serving game. Top server was Donavan with 16 points, nine aces. The whole team did a great job working to beat the Steamboat Sailors 25-6, 25-10.
Their opponent for the championship game was the Craig Bulldogs. As the first match began, it went back and forth with serving points coming from both teams. Strong serves led Rangely to seal the win in this match. Fielder and Lujan both had five points each, and Tapia had four points for the win, 25-21. Contributing to the win and sealing the championship title were Hamblin, Noel, Green, Donavan, Steele, Britt and Geer. All the girls for Rangely did an amazing job this year working hard.
The 7A team headed to Soroco Saturday for a single elimination  district tournament. Aslynn Ducey, Angelina Fortunato, Jade Miller, Lexi LeBleu, Miah Wren, Miley Chism and Emma Winder have worked hard all season to finish the season with a championship. There were nine teams at districts: Soroco, West Grand, North Park, Steamboat, East Grand, Hayden, Meeker, Craig and Rangely.
Rangely’s first opponent would be East Grand. Rangely’s serving kicked into gear and they were on a roll along with setting the ball up for their hitters. Serving up points for a 25-10 victory were Ducey, LeBleu, Chism, Fortunato and Wren. Serving in the second match was led by LeBleu, Fortunato and Winder which helped seal the win of 25-10 and take Rangely into round two against the Meeker Cowboys.
Rangely stepped it up with some blocks and tips by middles Miller and Chism. Right side LeBleu played great defense along with middle back Winder. Rangely won 25-19. In the second match, Rangely continued playing great defense and focusing on making their serves to seal the win 25-16 sending them into the championship match against West Grand.
The first match was neck and neck but West Grand pulled ahead to win 25-22. The next match Rangely kept fighting but came up short with a loss of 17-25. They ended their season in second place out of nine teams.
