MEEKER I Through ERBM Recreation and Park District, Meeker youth can participate in the Meeker Marlins swim team. There are two leagues that participants can choose to swim in. The first league is the High Country League. There are currently 15 Meeker swimmers in the High Country League. They have had two swim meets. Coach Jamie Bumguardnersays, “The Meeker Youth swimmers have come so far. For some of these swimmers, this is the first time they have swam more than a lap or two. I am so proud of their hard work.”
The other league is the USA Swimming Association. There are nine Meeker Marlins who participate in USA Swimming. They have had the opportunity to compete in three swim meets. The most recent swim meet was the Western Slope League Championship. The Meeker Marlins did well at the championship meet. The next USA Swimming meet will be the Colorado Seasonal State Championship meet in Lamar, Colorado, on Aug. 6-8. Six Meeker Marlins will be competing in the state meet. Coach Shelly Rogers had this to say about her team, “I say this every year, but these swimmers compete against year-round swimmers and continue to place high. Additionally, with each meet, best times are accomplished. This comes from dedication, making technical stroke changes when I ask, and grit in the water. I respect every one of my swimmers for that! I can’t wait to see how they swim in Lamar against only seasonal teams.”
