RBC — Two single vehicle accidents on county roads near Meeker resulted in property damage last month.
Sergeant Patrick Darrow responded to the first accident at 6000 County Road 7 March 18 at approximately 12:57 a.m. The driver, identified as George Proctor, 31, of Meeker, had left the accident scene prior to the sergeant’s arrival. The subsequent investigation determined that the 1990 Toyota 4-Runner was southbound on County Road 7 when it went off the right side of the road, traveling several hundred feet before returning to the road. The truck then crossed into the northbound lane of traffic, rotated clockwise and left the east side of the road, traveling down an embankment, through a barbed-wire fence and up a hill coming to rest on its wheels. Proctor was not injured; however, the vehicle and fence were damaged. Excessive speed was determined to be a factor in the accident.
Sergeant Darrow also responded to a hit and run accident on County Road 4 near the intersection of County Road 8 near Meeker March 23 at approximately 7:45 p.m. A vehicle of unknown description was southbound on County Road 8 when the driver began making a left-hand turn onto County Road 4. The driver missed the turn at the intersection and drove over a small dirt embankment between County Road 8 and a private driveway. The driver crossed the driveway, striking a utility pole, corral fence and corral gate and then left the accident scene. The corral gate, corral fence and utility pole sustained considerable damage requiring replacement. The accident is still under investigation by the sheriff’s office.
