Members of the White River Alliance met for drinks, education and conversation at Chippers Buffalo Hall. Following regular business the group heard from Shawn Connor, owner and Principal of BIO-Logic, Inc., a natural resources consulting business located in Montrose, Colorado. Connor spoke about riparian revitalization and restoration along the White River while answering questions and offering expertise to members of the alliance. Major topics of discussion included pushing for a reduction and/or elimination of permethrin as a mosquito control method and using larvicide instead, which is more precise/targeted than aerial spraying and doesn’t kill entire insect populations. Other subjects included the creation of small rock dams and other structures meant to help restore riparian water flows.
The White River alliance is planning a riparian restoration workshop later this year. Alliance President Shawn Welder said, “The workshop is intended to draw interest in people that are making money during restoration projects on their own property. So we hope we get some ranchers and landowners this fall. More information will be made available at https://whiteriveralliance.net/
