Panthers win homecoming

RANGELY I Wins for the Rangely Panther football team and first year head coach Paul Fortunato have been hard to come by this season but the Rangely players and coaches earned a victory over the Lake County Panthers in the 2011 homecoming game held last Saturday on Yeager Field.

Hobbs wins bugling contest

MEEKER I Kesston Hobbs, a fourth-grader at Meeker Elementary School, was named the overall grand champion at the 2011 elk bugling and camouflage contest sponsored by the Meeker Police Department and White River Electric Association.

Cowboys lose two in Vail

MEEKER I No matter the outcome of the final match of the regular season, the lady Cowboy varsity volleyball team will have to travel for the round of the district tournament, which will start Tuesday, Oct. 25, after losing two matches in Vail last Saturday.

Meeker ballots will be hand counted

MEEKER I Rio Blanco County Clerk and Recorder Nancy Amick discovered a printing error in the Meeker School District RE-1 ballots but the ballots will still be counted.

RE-1: Drill baby, drill

MEEKER I Meeker RE-1 superintendent Susie Goettel received direction from the school board to hire a new geotechnical company to further investigate the soils at the new elementary school. The CTL Thompson firm has proposed drilling at least three additional soil bores before structural repairs begin.

Pumpkin patch…

It took a while for members of the Meeker Chamber of Commerce and White River Electric Association to create a pumpkin patch on the courthouse lawn. More than 150 pumpkins were donated by Homemaker Furnishings.
