Watt, Terp win local golf championships
MEEKER I Only one day and 18 holes were played to determine the men and women golf club champions in Meeker last Saturday, instead of the normal two-day, 36-hole format played in the past.
Coed Softball championship scheduled for tonight
MEEKER I Rain delayed the start of the annual coed softball tournament sponsored by the ERBM Recreation and Park District by one day. Although the teams at press time had not been determined, the championship game(s) will be played tonight at Paintbrush Park starting at 8:15 p.m.
Hurricanes win 5th consecutive state championship
RANGELY I For a fifth year in a row, the Rangely Hurricanes swim team won the small team division at the Scottie Aschermann Memorial Seasonal Club Championship meet last weekend in Gunnison.
RBC Fair 2012
The Rio Blanco County Fairgrounds in Meeker was the place to be last week for the 2012 Rio Blanco County Fair.
A good fair…
It was the first year for Kelton Turner to show swine and he told his mom, Dr. Kellie Turner, “I’ve had a good fair this year,” after winning the junior showmanship and having the grand champion swine.
People’s choice…
Lukas Coryell won the boys’ division of the Rio Blanco County Sheep Lead and also won the People’s Choice award.
Rangely man killed in car accident
RANGELY I Rangely resident Christopher Karschner, 22, was killed July 28 when a car he was a passenger in crossed lanes and collided with a Freightliner truck tractor on Highway 40.
Helitack provides attack
RBC I The Teton Helitack team from Jackson, Wyo., first came to Rio Blanco County July 22, to help with the Powell fire.
OHV Fundraiser …
The first annual Rio Blanco County Search and Rescue OHV poker run featured 54 hands with the best going to Annie and Luke Purcell, Cassie McGuire was second and Bob Coquoz had the third best hand.
Junior golfers…
MEEKER I Thirty-four junior golfers played in the annual Meeker Junior Golf tournament, sponsored by the ERBM Recreation and Park District held Monday last at the Meeker Golf Course, featuring golfers from Meeker, Rangely, Craig, Rifle and Glenwood Springs.
Elk Crossing…
