Meeker Chamber elects new officers
MEEKER I Nine candidates were on the ballot for the Meeker Chamber of Commerce, with five board seats available. According to executive director Katelin Cook, more than 100 ballots were returned.
RHS opens 8-man season
RANGELY I The Rangely High School football team will start a new season, in a new league, playing a new game: eight-man football.

Eight volleyball seniors will lead Lady Panthers
RANGELY I Eight seniors will lead the lady Panther volleyball team this year. After two weeks of practice, the team will travel to Montrose this Saturday for a scrimmage before opening the season the following week in Glenwood Springs.

The cheerleading squad at Meeker High School has started its second year as an unfunded sport. The lack of funding has not affected enthusiasm or the number of girls out cheering for the Cowboys.
Backs finish with best net score
MEEKER I After the first day of play, George and Peggy Back were tied with Ellen Boudreaux and son Ron Kelly Crawford with the best gross score in the championship flight of the annual couples tournament. Although both teams added strokes on the second day, they both finished well.
Rangely True Value defends title
RBC I They did it the hard way but the Rangely True Value Hardware softball team defended their coed softball title by playing and winning four games in a row last Thursday after losing in the championship semifinals.

The hay is cut and baled in preparation for the upcoming Meeker Classic Sheepdog Championship Trials, which will start Sept. 5 and continue through Sept. 9.

Students on the eastern end of Rio Blanco County will officially start school September 4, but students have already been learning in the classrooms at the recently repaired Meeker Elementary School.
