Another week remains before the Meeker boys basketball takes to the court in their season opener.
Head coach Klark Kindler (above with Zagar Brown) said this year they are returning five seniors to the team. Leading 2020 scorer Liam Deming, Zach Simonsen, Peter Hanks, Brown, and Chakwah Brink. “This year things seem to be back to normal as compared to last year’s COVID year,” said Kindler. “We are returning a lot of leadership on the team and it shows in practice.”
The White River Electric Association Cowboy Shootout returns this year for its 20th time since 2000. The boys will be playing Longmont Christian at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for their opening game of the tournament. The other teams include Mancos, Aspen, Lotus, Palisade, Soroco, and Hayden. Saturday morning of the tournament the teams will compete in a three point contest and dunking contest and the coaches in a three point contest, public welcome to watch.
The boys’ tournament runs Dec. 9-11 beginning at 3 p.m. on Thursday, each team will get three games, one game per day.
