Meeker | The Barone Middle School seventh and eighth grade girls’ basketball teams returned to the court last Thursday evening, hosting the Rangely Panthers at Meeker Elementary School.
The eighth grade B team kicked off the night against Rangely’s B team, a younger squad that secured a 32-6 win. Leading the Cowboys in scoring was Tinlie Strate with 10 points, followed by Tacey Toon and Aidyn Ehnstrom with six each. Alexandria Trout and Sophia Moody added four points apiece, while Savannah Petrocco chipped in with two.
In the eighth grade A team matchup, the Cowboys battled Rangely’s A team in a much closer contest, ultimately pulling off a 27-23 victory. Raegan Clatterbaugh led the team with 12 points, followed by Cienna Rogers with eight. Haigen Harrison contributed four points, Midy Carmargo added two, and Hattie Brennan sank a free throw.
The seventh grade team also took on Rangely, securing a dominant 40-22 win. Graysie Coryell led the charge with 23 points, while Cora Lewis added seven, Addi Shonk scored six, and Zoe Holt and Uriah Padilla each contributed two points.
On Saturday, both the seventh and eighth grade teams traveled to Craig. The seventh grade played four games, winning them all. In their first matchup, the Cowboys defeated Rangely 36-6. Cora Lewis scored 16 points, while Coryell and Shonk added six each. Micah LeBlanc, Zoe Holt, Harper Ducey, and Padilla each scored two points.
The seventh grade then faced Steamboat Springs, winning 54-6. Coryell led with 28 points, Lewis added 12, Holt scored six, and Ducey and Shonk each contributed four points. In their third game, the team defeated Craig’s 7B team 46-4. Coryell scored 16 points, Lewis added 14, Ducey chipped in 10, Shonk scored four, and Padilla added two. In their final game, Meeker triumphed over Craig’s A team 32-17. Coryell scored 20 points, Shonk added six, and LeBlanc, Holt, and Lewis each scored two points.
The eighth grade B team defeated Craig 15-4 in their first game, with Jordyn Garcia leading the scoring with five points. Toon, Moody, Strate, Petrocco, and Ehnstrom each contributed two points. In their second game, the Cowboys bested Steamboat Springs 22-8. Garcia scored eight points, Toon added six, Moody had four, and Strate and Ehnstrom each scored two.
The eighth grade A team also found success, starting with a 36-13 victory over Steamboat Springs. Rogers scored all 17 of her points in the first half, with Carmargo adding six, Clatterbaugh five, Mia Hernandez four, and Harrison and Kinnley Smith each scoring two. In their second game, the team defeated Craig 44-7. Clatterbaugh led with 26 points, Harrison added eight, Rogers scored five, Carmargo added four, and Smith made a free throw.
The seventh grade team will host Rifle on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Meeker Elementary School, while the eighth grade team will travel to Rifle for a 5 p.m. matchup. Both teams will return home on Saturday, with games starting at 9 a.m. Fans are encouraged to attend and support the Cowboys. Good luck to both teams!
