MEEKER | Barone Middle School cross-country team returned to the trails last weekend for their final away meet of the season in Craig, Colorado, where they competed in the Moffat County Invite at Loudy Simpson Park.
The autumn morning provided ideal race conditions, but the team’s performances didn’t quite match the success of the previous week’s races.
On the girls’ side, Arionah Gutierrez finished 13th with a time of 16:57, while teammate Annie Fuller placed 25th with a time of 19:03. Both runners finished lower in the pack than expected.
“Everyone was a little off today. We’ve been struggling with some injuries and mid-season blahs,” Head Coach Sean Damitz said.
For the boys, Landon Damitz placed 13th with a time of 15:11. Teammates Jackson Steele finished 40th with a time of 17:45, and Colton Ruder placed 46th, clocking in at 18:06. The team was hoping for stronger performances on the 2.2-mile course.
“I told everyone that they need to turn it around and make a strong showing for their last race,” Damitz said.
The team will host their final meet of the season on Saturday, Oct. 5, on their home course in Meeker, Colorado. It will be the last race of the year for the middle school team, so grab your coffee and come support them.
