MEEKER I Meeker’s Barone Middle School track team competed at Rangely on Friday, April 8. Performances of note for the seventh-grade girls were Marlen Olivas in a tie for second place in 100-meter dash, Ruth Leblanc third in the 100-meter hurdles and second in shot put, Keelan Dade second long jump, Serenity Murray first in shot put, and Sawyer May first in high jump. Murray, Olivas, Leblanc and Dawn Arnold took second in the 4×100 relay, and Arnold, Dade, Murray and Olivas won the 4×200 relay.
Seventh-grade boys had Nathan McLaughlin in third in the 100 dash and high jump; Tucker Chinn second in 100 hurdles, triple jump, and high jump, and first in long jump; Joshua Quinn third in 100 hurdles, and Carlos Carillo winning high jump. McLaughlin and Chinn were joined by Andy Mondragon and Trent Sanders to win the 4×100 relay.Å
Eighth-grade girls: Rylee Sullivan won the 200-meter dash, and took second in triple jump. Addison Knowles won discus, was second in shot put and 200-meter dash. Haylee Steele was third in the 800-meter run. Jacey Follman finished third in triple jump. Follman, Knowles, Sullivan and Shailee Rundberg won the 4×100 relay, and Morgan Keetch, Sidney Keetch, Lilly Newman and Emma Bauer took third in that race. Follman, Knowles, Rundberg and Sullivan were second in the 4×400 relay. Rundberg, Lissbeth Sanchez, Steele and Birdie McCaffrey took third in the 4×200 relay. Steele, Sanchez, McCaffrey and Morgan Keetch were second in the 800 medley relay.
Eighth-grade boys had Aidan Tapia winning the 800 run, and he was second in the 1,600-meter race. Dublin Price finished second in the 400 dash and third in high jump. Tristin Rollins was second in 100 dash and 100 hurdles, and third in long jump. Rollins, Price, Kai Sjoerdsma and Sam Smithers were second in the 4×100 relay.
“It was a good start to the season. We had some strong performances, with room to grow,” said head coach Marty Casey The eighth-grade boys were second in team scoring, eighth-grade girls were third, seventh-grade boys finished second in their division, and the seventh-grade girls took first place as a team.
