Letter: Salazar promises a “fresh look” at regs
Dear Editor: On Feb. 15, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced that his Department will be taking a “fresh look” at commercial oil shale regulations. This all sounds reasonable. But, when you look past the rhetoric, this is just more bad news for domestic energy production.

I thank thee for thy kindness, knight
Dear Editor and Town of Meeker: I want you to know “chivalry” is not dead! One of your fine young residents, one of your own, was my “knight in shining armor,” his steed a big white truck, his lance and sword a tire iron and jack! He went beyond the[Read More…]
Letter: Fond memories of an earlier time
Dear Editor: I started playing trumpet for dances in 1935 at the IOOF Hall in Meeker, corner of 4th and Main. There was no TV in those days, so dances were quite popular. The band personnel at that time was Vic Parr, Damon Adams, Al Wear, Charles Tagert, George Oglesby[Read More…]
Letter: The beauty of being raised in a small town

Up and down el Rio Blanco: Great kids
We raise some great kids around here. Last week I wrote about the favorite part of my job as being able to watch kids grow up. I got to witness some of them growing up last week and I look forward to watching more this week.
Loose Ends: Blue skies few and far between
Watching the news in the past few weeks, it was obvious that predicting the weather is more of an art than a science. They need to be able to predict blue sky, as so many of us simply take it for granted. Can’t you just picture it? The meteorologists would[Read More…]
Meeker Locals
As we cross into the month of March this week, the idiom “in like a lion, out like a lamb” comes to mind. According to the familiar proverb, if the month of March begins cold and snowy, it will end gently with warm, spring-like weather. We shall see.

Rangely Locals
Hello, all! Hopefully, you haven’t forgotten me. I have taken some time off since my accident last summer but I’m back to feeling great and ready to share some news with you.
Up and Down El Rio Blanco: “Thanks”
More than 20 years ago in Steamboat Springs, Father Tom Dentici gave my all-time favorite sermon. I don’t remember it verbatim but the bottom line was: “The ultimate prayer, is a prayer of thanks,” Father Tom said.
