Lots of interest in two local political races in primary

Judging by the number of political signs posted around the county, there’s a lot of interest in the two contested local races in the Republican primary. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Joe Collins, who will retire his seat on the Rio Blanco County Board of Commissioners in January.

Valuation remains above $1 billion

RBC I Despite a reduction of about $14 million in the county’s 2010 assessed value, for the second year in a row the total has surpassed $1 billion. The county’s 2010 assessed valuation, which won’t be finalized until December at the time of re-certification, is $1,147,565,000, as of July 9.

Caves will be closed statewide on July 19

RBC I Colorado cavers have been notified that all Colorado, South Dakota and most Wyoming public caves with the U.S. Forest Service will be closed, starting July 19, to protect bats from White-Nose Syndrome, which is caused by fungus and disturbs the animals during hibernation,
