MEEKER I Meeker High School’s volleyball team is in full swing headed into their season opening tournament in Glenwood Springs this weekend.

MHS ends season district champs
MEEKER I After a three year absence from the regional volleyball tournament, the Meeker volleyball team qualified for post-season play as district champions but did not advance to the state tournament. Meeker finished third behind the champion team from Mancos and runner-up Telluride team.
MHS wins district tourney
MEEKER I “We started our journey at 5:30 a.m. on the bus and returned home at 11:30 p.m.,” Meeker High School volleyball coach Christy Atwood said about the district tournament held last Saturday in Oak Creek. Coach Atwood wasn’t complaining, since they returned as district champions.
Meeker advances to districts
MEEKER I Lady Cowboy volleyball coach Christy Atwood wanted her team to get a win in the final regular season match to take some momentum into the first round of the district tournament and her team performed to her expectations.
Cowboys lose two in Vail
MEEKER I No matter the outcome of the final match of the regular season, the lady Cowboy varsity volleyball team will have to travel for the round of the district tournament, which will start Tuesday, Oct. 25, after losing two matches in Vail last Saturday.
Ladies lose two matches
MEEKER I “It was not our best weekend of the season,” Meeker’s head volleyball coach Christy Atwood said of losing efforts to Paonia and Vail Mountain.
V’ball team splits games
MEEKER I Rangely and Vail Christian played Meeker in last Saturday’s homecoming triangular and split the matches, defeating Rangely but losing to Vail Christian.
Ladies split matches
MEEKER I Coming off four wins in their first tournament of the season, the lady Cowboys remained undefeated before a hometown crowd last Friday but lost their first match of the season in Oak Creek last Saturday.
Girls just want to have fun
MEEKER I “The girls had a lot of fun on the volleyball court and that hasn’t really been the case on our teams the last couple of years,” Meeker’s head coach Christy Atwood said.
Meeker hosts scrimmages
MEEKER I The school bells haven’t started ringing at Meeker High School yet but referee whistles were heard in both gyms last Saturday as the lady Cowboys hosted scrimmages with Grand Valley and Moffat County.
MHS volleyball team ends season in Paonia
MEEKER I The Lady Cowboy volleyball team bounced back from a homecoming loss to win the final match of the regular season last Saturday and finish as the Western Slope League’s No. 5 seed.
Lady Cowboys host Hayden for homecoming
MEEKER I The Meeker High School volleyball team both lost and won a league match last weekend and will end the regular season with a homecoming match against Hayden Friday, before traveling to Collbran on Saturday.
