MHS takes to the track

MEEKER I On Saturday, the Cowboys track and field team made the long trip to Hotchkiss High School for their second competition of the season. Although many times and distances were hampered by the cold weather, the boys and girls were able to earn some top spots in their events.

Meeker places three in RM Nationals

MEEKER I “The off-season is when you learn the most,” said wrestling coach Barny LeBlanc when nine members of the high school wrestling team asked him to coach them in the Rocky Mountain National tournament in Denver on March 16 and 17.

Final YBA games occur this week

MEEKER I The Meeker Youth Basketball boys’ season is coming to an end with the last games scheduled this week. The program was a huge success this year with approximately 21 participants in the fifth- and sixth-grade division and 19 in the third- and fourth-grade division.

Based on outstanding sportsmanship, leadership and character on and off the court, the Yampa Valley Basketball Officials Association, represented by Rick Murr, John Whinery and Ryan Duran, presented Meeker senior Kaysyn Chintala with the 2012-2013 sportsmanship award after the final regular season game.

BMS opens season with three wins

MEEKER I “They wrestled great for not having very many practices in,” Barone Middle School head wrestling coach Lee Overton said about his team’s first performance of the season. “We just have one week of routine practice.”
