MEEKER I The Meeker girls’ volleyball team started its season well, playing in the extremely competitive Glenwood Springs tournament consisting of five pools made up of teams ranging in classification from 2A to 5A.

MHS volleyball team headed to Glenwood tournament
MEEKER I Meeker High School’s volleyball team is in full swing headed into their season opening tournament in Glenwood Springs this weekend.
MHS Cowboy football team takes opener 27-0
MEEKER I The 2012 Cowboys opened the season with a 27-0 victory over the visiting Grand Junction J.V. team. The Black and Gold were led by a defense that played exceptionaly well, limiting the opponent to only 24 yards total offense and four first downs.
Spirit keepers …
The cheerleading squad at Meeker High School has started its second year as an unfunded sport. The lack of funding has not affected enthusiasm or the number of girls out cheering for the Cowboys.
Backs finish with best net score
MEEKER I After the first day of play, George and Peggy Back were tied with Ellen Boudreaux and son Ron Kelly Crawford with the best gross score in the championship flight of the annual couples tournament. Although both teams added strokes on the second day, they both finished well.
Cowboy football starts Friday
MEEKER I The 2012 football season begins Friday night when the Cowboys host Central High School’s JV team from Grand Junction, a 5-A school.
Watt, Terp win local golf championships
MEEKER I Only one day and 18 holes were played to determine the men and women golf club champions in Meeker last Saturday, instead of the normal two-day, 36-hole format played in the past.
Coed Softball championship scheduled for tonight
MEEKER I Rain delayed the start of the annual coed softball tournament sponsored by the ERBM Recreation and Park District by one day. Although the teams at press time had not been determined, the championship game(s) will be played tonight at Paintbrush Park starting at 8:15 p.m.
Co-ed softball
The regular season for the co-ed softball league sponsored by the ERBM Recreation and Park District is now over and the tournament will start Aug. 13, with the championship game scheduled to be played Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Paintbrush Park.
Haymaker hole-in-one …
Trey Morris (second from left) recorded his first hole-in-one at the Haymaker Golf Course in Steamboat Springs July 22. Witnesses were (from left to right) Jason, Cole and Roston Steiner. MEEKER I The Meeker Marlins Swim team, sponsored by the ERBM Recreation and Park District, concluded their summer swim meet schedule with the High Country League Championship meet in Eagle, Colo., this past Friday.
