RANGELY I The defending small school state basketball champs, the Little Snake River Rattlers from Baggs, Wyo., and the Soroco Rams from Oak Creek traveled to Rangely last week for games. The Panthers lost to the Rattlers but beat the Rams.

RANGELY I The Rangely girls’ basketball team suffered the same fate as the boys, losing to the Little Snake River Rattlers 26-43 Thursday last. They came back, however, to pound the Soroco Rams 69-43 the following night on their home court.
Panthers split games
RANGELY I The Panther boys’ basketball team lost its first game of 2012 on the road but won its first in the new year at home, losing to the Plateau Valley Cowboys in Collbran Friday last before beating the DeBeque Dragons Saturday in Rangely.

RANGELY I This past weekend the Rangely lady Panthers basketball team traveled to Plateau Valley High School for a match against the Cowboys.
High school teams start 2012 play Friday
RBC I Both Rio Blanco County high school wrestling teams will travel across the state line to open the 2012 season at the Tournament of Champions in Vernal, Utah, and three of the local basketball teams will host at least one home game this weekend.

RANGELY I The Rangely boys’ basketball team went on the road last weekend and lost two games, one in Wyoming and another in Colorado.

RANGELY I “The first two games were like a deja vu from last year — same song, same dance,” Rangely boys’ basketball coach Eric Hejl said of his team’s start in the White River Electric Cowboy Shootout.
Rangely teams busy in Utah, home
RANGELY I Rangely High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams were busy this weekend. The varsity teams traveled to Duchesne, Utah, for games Thursday night, and the JV and freshman teams played at home in a tournament Friday and Saturday.

RANGELY I “It was our first game of the year and you could definitely tell,” Rangely girls’ basketball coach Jimmie Mergelman said of her team’s first round game in the White River Electric Cowboy Shootout.

The annual boys’ WREA Cowboy Shootout will begin tonight with Rangely playing Grand Valley at 6 p.m., followed by Meeker against Cedaredge in the first round of the three-day event.

RANGELY I The Rangely Panthers boys’ basketball team will wait until next week to open the season at the White River Electric Association Cowboy Shootout. The Panthers will open the season against Grand Valley next Thursday.
