MEEKER | A successful homecoming week for Cowboy volleyball going 3-0 for another week of league play.
“What a great homecoming week for the volleyball team,” commented head coach Greg Cravens. “I believe Tuesday night’s match versus Grand Valley was the best game we have played all year.”
The Cowboys won 25-20, 25-15 and 25-23. Scoring was led by Ainsley Selle who had 13 kills and Reese Clatterbaugh who had 12.
“We were earning points for ourselves averaging 17 points per set,” commented Cravens. “We ended the match with a .201 hitting efficiency, which was our best for the season.”
Adi Selle, Natalie Kracht and Rylee Sullivan had a strong night hitting, earning 16 more of the Cowboys points. Graycee Cravens assisted 25 times and Ellie Hossack 14.
Cedaredge was able to win one set Friday, but the Cowboys fended off the momentum to take the game 4-1.
“Cedaredge had some very good middles and we struggled stopping them,” said Cravens. “Even with our best effort of the season blocking with nine Cedaredge was able to win a set.”
At the net Ainsley had 10 kills, Clatterbaugh eight and Sullivan seven to lead the Cowboys. Clatterbaugh added four blocks, Ainsley three, and Adi three to score additional key points.
Saturday’s trip to Grand Junction for D team through varsity to take on Caprock was quick and dominating.
“I’m very proud of the girls because they had a lot to worry about Saturday but they took care of business,” commented Cravens.
Varsity won 25-20, 25-22 and 25-23.
“Caprock put up a fight in the third set and we were actually behind 22-23 but then Caprock had a service error, Taylor got an ace and they had a hitting error giving us the win,” said Cravens.
The thoughts of the dance, didn’t hold back Ainsley from 10 kills and two blocks, Clatterbaugh with two kills and six blocks and Natalie Kracht with four kills.
In the three games there was a lot of defensive contribution from Garcia who had 87 digs, Ainsley who had 52 and Celine Lozano who had 50.
This week the Cowboys play West Grand on the road beginning Thursday at 4 p.m.
“We are looking forward to this week with just one match against West Grand and some much needed rest,” ended Cravens. “West Grand are very athletic and will be a good test.”
