MEEKER | Meeker Cross Country traveled to VIX Ranch Park in New Castle on Friday, competing in the Coal Ridge Invitational. The Cowboys were represented in all four high school races.
Haylee Steele had the first race of the day, finishing the varsity girls’ race in 29:48 for 59th place. The boys’ varsity race had Wyatt Rollins out to a great start and strong finish, 13th place at 18:41. Brad Conrado was again our second to the line with a new personal record of 20:16 and 29th. Cameron Hanberg, out sick last week, came roaring back in 35th place, with his best time this season of 20:46. Aidan and Ashton Tapia were right on his heels at 20:50 and 20:51(PR), 36th and 37th places respectively. Ryan Hanberg was three places behind in 20:56 (PR). Meeker took fifth place in team scoring.
Abby Amick was the sole Meeker runner in the girls’ JV race, setting a new PR of 34:59 and 22nd place. The Cowboys had four competitors in boys JV, and Haydyn Massey had a great race with a third-place finish and new PR of 21:06. Lucas Robinson, Kyran Kracht and Asa Scofield all set new PRs as well, at 29:55, 30:44, and 31:43 for 24th, 25th and 26th places.
“An excellent day of racing for the Cowboys!” commented coach Marty Casey. “This is a quick course, but to have eight of 12 runners set new best times really shows how hard they are working. We saw a number of their times improve by several minutes.”
The Cowboys are hosting the Meeker Invitational on Saturday morning, with races scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m., and start and finish lines on the practice field north of the middle school.
