Cowboys fall at Roaring Fork, rebound with home win over Cedaredge

MEEKER |  The Meeker High School girls basketball team opened the week on the road with a nonleague matchup against Roaring Fork, looking to complete a season sweep of the Rams after a 47–40 home win earlier this season.

That sweep did not materialize, as Meeker fell 66–47 on Tuesday night, dropping the Cowboys to 14–4 overall.

Meeker struggled to slow Roaring Fork’s balanced offensive attack, as the Rams built momentum early and maintained control throughout the game. Roaring Fork capitalized on second-chance opportunities and converted consistently at the free-throw line, preventing Meeker from mounting a sustained comeback.

“Roaring Fork is a big, physical team and they had an excellent night shooting the ball,” head coach Eric Hamilton said. “A couple of their players had excellent games and we really had a tough time with their size. We made a nice run at them in the second quarter, but they just had an answer every time we got close.”

Senior Rylee Sullivan led the Cowboys with 17 points, while senior Addie Knowles added 13 points and five assists. Freshman Cienna Rogers finished with nine points, and freshman Raegan Clatterbaugh contributed eight points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Despite solid individual performances, Meeker was unable to overcome shooting inconsistencies and Roaring Fork’s efficiency, particularly in transition.

“They are a really good team, but we were able to beat them at home earlier,” Hamilton said. “I hate losing, but it’s not the end of our season splitting with a team of that caliber. We’ll keep our heads up after that loss.”

Meeker responded by returning home Friday night to host Cedaredge, a team the Cowboys defeated 37–21 earlier this season on the road. This time, Meeker again protected home court, pulling away in the second half for a 54–42 victory to complete the season sweep.

After a competitive opening stretch, Meeker leaned on balanced scoring, defensive pressure and steady senior leadership to take control. The Cowboys dictated the tempo, limited second-chance opportunities and consistently turned defensive stops into offense.

“I thought the girls played a very solid game against Cedaredge,” Hamilton said. “We jumped out tough in the first quarter and they made a nice comeback in the second, but our defense really locked in in the second half. It was a big win for us, and the second-half effort was excellent by everyone.”

Sullivan led Meeker with a game-high 22 points, scoring efficiently inside while adding six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Knowles followed with 13 points, knocking down three 3-pointers and providing a steady presence on both ends of the floor.

Freshman Raegan Clatterbaugh continued her strong all-around play with seven points, six rebounds, six assists and five steals. Junior Kayla Castillo added six points and three steals, continuing to make an impact defensively as she works back into full rhythm following an earlier injury.

Meeker shot 39 percent from the field, won the rebounding battle 26–15 and recorded 15 assists as a team. The Cowboys’ defensive effort helped limit Cedaredge’s scoring runs and maintain control throughout the final quarter.

With the win, Meeker improved to 15–4 overall and 10–2 in league play, sitting second in the league standings. The Cowboys are currently ranked 11th in the CHSAA Selection and Seeding Index.

Meeker will remain at home this week, hosting Olathe on Friday night before welcoming North Fork on Saturday afternoon in a rematch with league implications.

“Our last two league games are going to be fun,” Hamilton said. “There’s a lot at stake, including the league title. We can’t overlook Olathe, but the North Fork game is huge. They have good interior players and quick shooters on the outside. Our team is very excited about this rematch on our home court.”

As the regular season enters its final weeks, Meeker remains firmly in the league race and in strong position for postseason play. The Cowboys will host Olathe on Friday night and North Fork on Saturday afternoon, with league standings and playoff seeding at stake, as they look to finish strong behind veteran leadership and a growing young core.
