MEEKER | The Cowboys had two tough games to prepare for, and knew they needed to win in both to shoot for a league championship.
Thursday, in a county rivalry game they beat the Panthers 50-44, they led early and kept the lead the entire game.
Liam Deming, who scored 18 points to lead the team, two from a crowd pleasing dunk, also had 16 rebounds and two steals. Zagar Brown had an additional 14 points, 14 rebounds and two steals.
“We had two great games,” began Kindler, “ we made free throws when we needed and got stops when we needed them.”
Then Saturday the Cowboys beat the seventh ranked Vail Mountain Gore Rangers 52-50, two very exciting home games.
Only up by two at the half they maintained the small and exciting lead for the whole game. Deming once again came up big for the night with 18 points, Zach Simonsen and Jace Mobley each had 14. Off the boards Casey Brink and Simonsen led with eight each.
The wins over the weekend improved their record to 9-3 and 5-1 in the league. According to MaxPreps, which is just one of the rankings in the composite, the Cowboys are sitting in the 15th position. The top eight teams in the state host districts, and the Cowboys continue to inch up.
This week the boys have two games, both are away league games, Tuesday in Soroco and then Saturday in North Park. At the commencement of this week, only two regular, and very busy, weeks will remain in the season.
