Cowboys struggle at Windsor Charter Tournament

MEEKER |   The Meeker High School boys basketball team faced a tough weekend at the Windsor Charter Tournament, dropping both of their games to remain winless this season.

On Friday, the Cowboys fell to the Bishop Machebeuf Buffaloes 60-41, marking their fifth straight loss dating back to last season. Despite the defeat, senior Alex Garcia shined in the game, scoring a career-high 14 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Fellow senior Drew Drake contributed seven points and had eight rebounds in that afternoon’s contest.

The loss dropped Meeker’s record to 0-4 on the season. Head coach Klark Kindler noted moments of promise but acknowledged areas for improvement. “We played well at times, but their defense took away some things we wanted to get. We struggled handling their pressure,” Kindler said.

Saturday the Cowboys were faced with another challenging matchup against the Banning Lewis Academy Stallions. It would result in a 71-41 defeat. The Cowboys had difficulty containing junior Matthew Lebron, who scored 23 points on 10-of-15 shooting, and senior Trey Oden, who added 18 points and four steals.

With the loss, Meeker’s record fell to 0-5. Kindler remained optimistic about his team’s growth despite the tough start. “Our goal, as it always is, is to improve every day and every game,” he said. He also emphasized the team’s challenging schedule that the team is playing. “We have played a very difficult schedule, and people need to realize it. The players know our schedule and will beabetter for it,” Kindler added.

The Meeker Cowboys will have a break before returning to action on Jan. 4, 2025, when they host Little Snake River. The Cowboys will have to look to slow down Little Snake River who are currently riding a three-game winning streak. The game is set to tip off at 4 p.m. at Meeker High School. Good luck to the Cowboys as they look to turn their season around. As always, go Cowboys!
